The First Resource for Jails
Baxter County, AR -- A Baxter County Detention Center inmate tried to asphyxiate himself Wednesday afternoon, according to Sheriff John Montgomery. The inmate was taken by ambulance to Baxter Regional Medical Center.
The inmate reportedly ripped up a blanket, tied it together and attempted to asphyxiate himself, said Montgomery, who declined to name the inmate.
Two investigators, one with a camera, could be seen entering the jail shortly after the incident was reported. Personnel from the Mountain Home Fire Department assisted an ambulance crew from BRMC at the scene.
When the ambulance left the jail, the crew did not immediately turn on the vehicle's lights and sirens, usual indications of a patient on board with a serious medical issue.
The incident still is under investigation, according to Montgomery.
